I got Pluto from a girl I knew who was keeping him in her bathroom. She had another dog who one of her friends had given drugs to . They thought it was really funny and probably would have done the same to Pluto sooner or later.
He was just a puppy , about 11 or 12 weeks old white poodle, and a really happy little guy. At first he belonged to my roommate but pretty soon got attached to me so we started hanging around together. I took him everywhere with me and pretty soon we became best friends. The only toy that he liked was a stuffed raccoon that was bigger than he was. He used to tear into it, growling and biting and throwing it around. Then he would hump it for a while before taking a nap.
So , as time went by he grew up to be about 10 or 11 lbs. and still always happy and smiling. Then I started noticing that he wasn't acting like himself. Nothing specific, just a little different.
We went to our veterinarian, Dr. Ed and he took xrays of Plutos back. It turned out that there was a disc in his back that was fusing to his spine and if it wasn't taken care of it could result in paralysis . So we had to go through major surgery and they took out a total of seven discs. In preparation for the surgery Pluto had to be shaved bald and as a result was very embarrassed to go out in public. I'll never forget him hiding behind the furniture and peeking out. I finally found some small sleeveless tshirts and that solved the problem. Thats it for now but watch for the second installment.
